Warrington is roughly twenty five minutes from our base in Hindley Green, and it is a genuinely different town to work in compared with the old Lancashire pit towns north of it.
Warrington was designated a new town in 1968, and the estates that followed — Birchwood in the 1970s, Westbrook after it, and later Chapelford and the Great Sankey developments — mean a very large share of Warrington housing was built from the 1970s onwards. That has a practical consequence: a lot of these homes are now on their second or third boiler, and many still run pipework and controls that have never been properly looked at since the house was built.
Built through the 1970s as part of the new town. Cavity construction and generally sensible flue routes, but the original heating systems are long past replacement. The common finds are heavily sludged pipework, tired controls, and boilers sited in awkward cupboards.
